We have just launched a brand new report about how you can use low cost Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and social media channels to really drive down the cost of recruiting without sacrificing quality. How will the job boards and recruitment agencies survive once you've read this report (tongue in cheek of course!).
You can register for this report at www.hirestrategies.co.uk/lowcost. Enjoy. Continue

We are running a survey to look at how HR can use social media internally. All participants will get a free summary of our findings which will be available mid-April. Already with only a few huundred responses in we are seeing a clear indication as to the level of interest by HR in social media.

Worth listening to and only a few minutes. What should employers do about employees complaining about customers on Facebook?

With so many people using Facebook at work, Twittering away, reading blogs and many more social media activities how should employers deal with this?
Well, BA just sack them! OK a bit harsh, but if you don't have clear guidelines around what employees can and cannot say in the virtu… Continue

And we wonder why our little darlings turn into confused, rebellious Gen Y'ers. Worth watching particularly if you are a Mum (or of a course a modern Dad!).

Much money has been spent on career sites for general, graduate and niche recruitment but what will investment in these sites be like for 2009?
I'm still working with some clients on making more of these for 2009 yet others are suggesting the recruitment market will be dead in 2009? Even companies that are finding business tight still need good people, in fact, even better people as customers will be more demanding and more selective when deciding to part with their very hard earned and shrinki… Continue
There are a number of graduate recruitment managers busy with their 2008 graduate career portals which will of course only be live for a few precious months. Graduates at the same time are no doubt polishing off their keyboards, cancelling their McDonalds shifts and researching employer websites who they met at the campus fairs.
Or will they? Will the Gen Y mindset be about backpacking, flying off to sunnier climes next summer, not worrying about a job quite yet? And should graduate recruiters… Continue
I wrote a post on Talent Technology Blog about how business messages are lost in the huff that surrounds them. Often mission statements are impossible to repeat and strategies are in reality unclear. What about your employer brand message? Can you get it down to a Tweet? And if you can't maybe you should rethink it.
Give it a go and maybe share it on here!NOTE: A Tweet is a message you add in Tw… Continue

The debate about the NHS is raging on at the moment with the latest vote being about 'Should the NHS have the choice to treat or not treat unhealthy people?'

I was talking to Richard Doherty of Jobpartners earlier today about their new product Active Networker; an enterprise level internal corporate network for connecting employees - think internal Facebook but a lot more secure and professional!
Anyway, Richard explained how one organisation who has recently acquired a company was using their internal network to integrate both sets of people. Clearly a great way of quickly getting people more integrated so they feel part of the team. But this goes… Continue

As we have now changed the URL to www.talentcloud.co.uk anyone who has subscribed to any of the RSS feeds will unfortunately need to re-subscribe. Also, the e-mail feed for latest posts has been updated so if you have received this post by e-mail then all is still fine; if not you will need to subscribe again.
Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused but at least answers why you have not been getting any automatic updates! Continue

Is this how online adverts work best? Or is it too much effort for both recruiters and applicants to make this much effort (although it really isn't that much effort!).

Here's part of the advert, created on Squidoo which is entirely free.

I've been saying for a few years now that it is going to get to a point where the first time we meet a new hire is post offer/final negotiation. Everything will be done remotely and virtually and the real meeting will be for both parties to maybe spend a whole day together making sure everything they discussed is as expected. People are buying expensive cars on eBay without seeing them until they go and collect; obviously if it is a complete lemon they don't pay and the seller gets bad feedback.… Continue

If we always do what we've always done, we'll always get what we always got.
It's an interesting comment. Chris Boardman, Head of Team GB cycling made changes and made history. Yet we get hired based on our historical successes and often deploy what worked as this is kind of expected of us. But sometimes we make changes looking for yet more improvements only to go backwards. I sometimes try changing a recipe when I cook and often as not I get it wrong; and my Gen Z kids (oops, millenials… Continue
